Plein aire painting summer of 2014

I've been trying to get outdoors more often and paint with the PAAC (Plein Aire Painters of Colorado) group......I'm always happy once I've made the effort to pack up my supplies and get out of my studio into the great unknown!!!!

Denver Urban Skyline

This is a painting I created recently that will hang in the new Exempla St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver once it's complete. Presently it is still under construction. This was an exciting project to work on through Nine dot Arts. I was honored when they commissioned me to begin work on this painting in late summer. I'll be anxious to see where it will hang in the hospital!!!

"Afternoon In LoHi"

This is a new piece that I created especially for a young couple that you see walking their dog in the painting.....it's in the Lower Highlands (LoHi) neighborhood of Denver, CO. It has been framed and delivered to their home near Cherry Creek. They love it and I am very proud!

An opening reception with the artist will be held on Friday, February 8, from 5 pm – 8 pm at the gallery at 1455 Curtis Street in Downtown Denver. This event is free and open to the public.

Commissioned Painting

I don't know why the picture was left out of my previous posting......HERE IT IS!!!!!

Painting Delivered to New Home!!!!!

This commmissioned painting was delivered to its new home recently! What a joy that event was for me! The painting was created over the summer of 2012 (a very hot summer!)...and its new owners LOVE IT!!!!! There was a lot more detail to concern myself with than I expected...but the end result made me very happy!!

This commissioned portrait that I call "Embrace" was created as a birthday gift....my goal was to create a painting with feeling....maintaining the young innocence of the daughter hugging her mother.

SOLD @ St. Jude's Dreamhouse Giveaway in Castle Rock

I was very pleased to receive a phone call from a woman who had been through the Dreamhouse in Castle Rock recently......she "fell in love" with two of my paintings and has purchased both of them!!! I'll attach pictures. The house will be open until Sept. 16th....I hope you'll have an opportunity to go through it. I have 29 paintings throughout the house.

This is a painting that I completed recently.....it's an Empire Colonial house that was totally renovated by the gentleman who commissioned me to do the painting. He did such an outstanding job!!!! It's in the Curtis Park neighborhood of Denver.

Denver's Diverse Alleys

I am still working on the skies ..... the clouds continue to change .... these two paintings are 18" x 60" ..... I've been busy with another painting but I'll polish these off soon!!!!!!

"Blue" On the Run!!!!

I missed the opportunity to post "Blue"'s painting once it was complete. He lives in North Carolina and looks like a bundle of FUN!!!!!!!

"Afternoon Moon"

This is the first in a series of downtown Denver that I'm working on.....this is an alley off the 16th Street Mall. It is 18" x 60" and I'm about to take it downstairs and put it in a frame!!!!

National Western Stock Show - Denver

The thrill of seeing the longhorns parading up 17th Street every January convinced me to create this painting......I went to the parade again this year and was not disappointed.......it was still a THRILL!!!!!! This painting can be seen at Mid Mod and More Urban Gallery at 1716 Boulder Street, Denver. They are open Wed. through Sunday...call 720-291-0175 for directions and hours. Ask for David.

Kimba Girl

Here's Kimba as I completed her. This was a great project and I'm sure my grandson will be thrilled. He sees me painting all of these other animal portraits and I'm sure he's been wondering when I would paint Kimba.

Left Handed Portrait

Now this is a new twist for me.....I'm having hand surgery soon so I started this portrait of my grandson's dog, Kimba, with my left hand. I actually surprised myself.......it's a very awkward but if I take my time I'm quite happy with the results.

New Dog Portraits

These two dog portraits have been created just this past week.....the dog in the truck is "Kirby" and the dog looking up is "Nellie". Contact me via e-mail if you would like me to do one for you!!!! I hope your holidays are full of joy.

I've photographed the completed painting of the Denver Airport myself and am hoping it shows more of the details. It will be shown at the Denver Airport in the PRI office (Provenzano Resources, LLC)....it's located in East Terminal - Center Office Area on the upper level across a hallway from Panda Express. It's a corner office with frosted glass windows. If you happen to be in the airport and have the time I hope you will stop by to see it.....I will also have another four or five paintings in their office. I will be delivering them this coming Saturday!.......unless it snows again!!!! Click on the photograph to enlarge it.

August 5th First Friday Art Event

Buster and Leon

I have had a great time painting "Buster" and "Leon".......I will miss their portraits in my studio once they've left the building!!!!! Buster will be shipped to Oregon and Leon to Nebraska. I enjoyed bringing them to life!!!!

Painting of quote by Apollinaire.......

There is a quote by Apollinaire that I have liked for a long time.

"Come to the edge," he said. "I can't, I'll fall off," she said.
"Come to the edge," he said. She came. He pushed her and she flew.

I decided to include this quote within one of my paintings.
